| My education in the arts began with my mother. As the daughter of a passionate, successful artist I had no doubt that I, too could follow my dreams. I have always been an artist of many mediums, enjoying different aspects of both fine art and design. I received a degree in furniture design at Rhode Island School of Design and studied jewelry design at a small metalsmithing school in Mexico.
My time spent in Mexico was influential to my growth as both a person and an artist. I felt inspired by such a beautiful culture. Although I worked solely with metal while in Mexico, when I came home I felt as though there was something missing from my jewelry. My most recent work illustrates how I feel about a place that made me look at life in true color. Using a different medium, I was able to achieve a look that I couldn’t with metals alone. The beads I create are unique, making every piece of jewelry a one-of-a-kind work of art. The beads are created with polymer clay using a technique which traces back as far as 1570 BC. This technique is most commonly referred to as millefiori and has been adapted with different mediums by many cultures throughout history. It consists of taking different colors of a material and combining them to form a pattern. They are then rolled out, sliced, and laminated on the surface of the bead. I am enjoying the process of creating this collection and look forward to where it takes me next. All of the jewelry is currently being made out of my studio in Providence, Rhode Island. |
